Or maybe we could just give him the CBC? That way we could get 2 birds stoned at once.

I feel dirty just for having read this, like I want to go have a nice swim in a lake and get the ick off.

Can’t say I thought of this. But I don’t disagree. I actually suspect it’s deeply correct. Bribes are how politicians in the corrupt dictatorships of the world communicate and make decisions.

That's pretty funny! But it might even work!

He's always wanted a football team, and I bet Rogers would be willing to give up the Argonauts.

It would probably work out for their fans too, since the new ownership would just ignore the salary cap.

Trump isn't the one stalling. That would be Carney, the guy who said that ONLY HE could "get a deal", which got him your vote.

Ever since, he has done everything possible to prove to you that he does not WANT a deal. Mostly, he is doing this because he knows that you will blame every bad thing which happens in Canada (failing economy, food prices, corporate flight, etc.) on his convenient boogeyman, DJT.

If you still believe him, that's on you.

Actually Canada's economy is not failing. I also think that Carney believes that no deal is better than a bad deal. The August 19 tariffs will affect just 5% of our exports and although I am very sympathetic to those that will be affected, I think we need to and hopefully will not sign a deal and just let those tariffs take effect if we cannot get an agreement on the bigger picture tariffs.

No deal is better than a bad deal and frankly, the Americans will hold us to a bad deal but considering who we are dealing with, what faith can we have that they won't just violate a good deal down the line?

Carney should have run on that VERY convenient excuse then.

Maybe he should have also run on "there's no point to making a deal with Trump" too, because that seems to be the other VERY convenient excuse Liberals keep trying to use for their own inaction.

Canada's economy has been flatlined for almost a decade.

Our debt is growing alarmingly fast. Affordability - far from being "the best it has been in a decade" as Carney so famously claimed - in fact, we are leading the G7 in food inflation, and many other inflationary measures. GDP per Capita continues to fall, and the government is doing nothing to stop it. Business insolvencies are at record levels not seen since the Global Recession. Personal insolvencies are following the same pattern. A recent poll showed that 40% of Canadian companies are considering moving their operations (or HQ) out of Canada.

What would it take for you to admit the Canadian economy is "failing"?

From the Fraser Institute: Canada displays a split economic performance compared to the G7. While overall GDP and total growth rank near the top of the group, fast population expansion means GDP per capita lags behind. Inflation has cooled to target levels, but high household debt and productivity sluggishness create distinct domestic challenges.

I agree with this. I didn't agree with the large amount of people who were let into the country without adequate health care, housing and other supports that a society needs to support a large influx of people. Rapid population expansion has been curbed and GDP per capital will rise.

Since Mark Carney took office as Prime Minister on March 14, 2025, Statistics Canada reported that foreign direct investment (FDI) into Canada reached $96.8 billion for the full year 2025—the highest annual inward flow recorded since 2007.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I do not like living in "Trumpworld".

You should never give someone like Trump anything, because it doesn't register as a mark in your favour. It registers you as a sucker, someone he can get something out of toying with. It will only make him want more, nothing will ever be enough. Your best bet is probably just making yourself no fun to deal with, someone he can't get either a win or even the fun of fucking with you from. If there's nothing in it for him, maybe eventually he leaves you alone. Giving and giving to buy yourself more time isn't preserving anything with a person like that, it's just losing everything more slowly.

"Canada, it’s time to swallow our pride...." is the only take away from this satirical portrait of the POTUS. We Canadians - all 37 million of us - have the nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Canada in 2026 of $2.51 trillion ; the nominal GDP of the United States - population 350 Million - in 2026 is $32.38 trillion .... go figure which country needs the other as a trading partner...Eh? 🫣

And yet, their GDP is lower and they are losing jobs, contrary to what is happening in Canada. They are on a slide down.We can add a lot by removing interprovncial protection and do trade actually as one country.

Bribing a foreign leader is "dirty and degrading," swallowing Canada's pride and paying Trump off might be the cheapest and most effective way to protect the Canadian economy.

You know, it has been driving me nuts ever since the orange lunatic became President for a second time. Why in the hell are we even negotiating on anything with this moron? He will change his mind. He will lie. He will obfuscate and will continue to do so as there is nobody to hold him accountable to. And government is trying to get a deal with someone who will change his mind after each Big Mac.

Stop it. Things will suck either way with tariffs or walking away from the table. CUSMA is dead. We should be of the position that 'you guys just let us know when you want to actually negotiate instead of whipping out your manifest destiny for all to see.

Unconventional and absurd, but so is Trump. Sadly for Canada, I can't say Andrew is wrong about the state of things.

Better no deal than a bad deal. It puts the ball in Trump's court that proves him the Caligula of our times. Eventually he'll go away. Maybe taking the high road is better for all of us in Canada in the long run. Standing up to Hitler was in the long run better for England. The USA reluctantly followed eventually in opposing Hitler and showed to have "honorable" in them.

It took Germany a very long time to face and come back from its permsssion for having grown and allowing Hitler's depravity. Today, the choice to have and re-elect a corrupt and cruel leadership is on the heads of the American people. We can not "manage" that despiccable leader.
