I consider myself reasonably well informed on the election issues (I mean, jeeze, I read and listen to The Line stuff that is churned out generously, read the press that travels and reports, catch analysis in a bunch of formats, and so on). But much of the blathering by anti-panel eludes me. Who are you folks talking to here? Several dozen party pros?

Please, try to inform those of us who would like something a bit less inside baseball. I don't ask for much. Maybe some clarity. And I don't give a fuck about all the "fucking this and fucking that". And yes, I get that you are real people, talking like so many do. But there are other modifiers available.

I did appreciate the advice to other parties, though.

I voted liberal for over 40 years, voted NDP once in support of Jack Layton, and voted Conservative the last two elections. I expect to vote Conservative again if only because the NDP have relegated themselves to distant third party status and Carney has become the poster child for stupid lies and evasion. I expect the Lib supporters may pillory me again as they did three weeks ago when I suggested Carney was the same old same old as Trudeau. If anyone has doubts look at the reintroduction of the blindingly failed gun buyback program to be introduced yet again. Liberals are running scared.

The Liberals really only have one election strategy throughout the decades: telling NDP supporters that "if you don't vote Liberals, the Big Bad Conservative Monster will eat your children" while unleashing the Big Bad Liberal Monster the day after the election. This time, they get to talk about the Big Bad Trump Monster as a bonus.

This conversation reads more like 3 or 4 people talking amongst and to each other rather than aiming to send any coherent message, info, or even any context across to the readers. Only when Matt seems to guide the conversation in a specific direction at the end, did it feel like it had some value.

Sure, this is supposed to be some free flowing, off-the-cuff conversation, and there are a few highlights here and there - but for us regular readers (at least to me), this doesn't really give me much meaningful information or perspective.

I was actually looking forward to this Anti-Panel idea, but I felt it has been mostly lacking in substance. Hoping the next ones are more moderated and focused.

I think I will skip the anti-panel. Lots of other relevant stuff.

This election is all about the liberals trying to scare people into voting for them, the conservatives appealing to the electorate’s common sense but failing to punch through because the electorate is scared witless and the NDP fighting for relevance. The libs have a giant horse shoe up their butt, everything fell into place at the exact right time for them. The conservatives will likely lose the election. They will once again win the popular vote but the GTA will once again deliver for the libs because, you know, big bad orange man. Frustrating as it is, that’s Canadian politics for you… no common sense, just emotions. As to the welfare of Canadians, it isn’t even be a consideration in the libs’ playbook.

I support The Line and wish it every success but this Anti-Panel is poorly focused and seems more of a beery conversation among friends than thoughtful political analysis. I agree with Terry Hoffman, there are other modifiers available.

I appreciate The Line’s commentary which is insightful, entertaining and informative. That is why I am a subscriber. There is a BUT ….. I’m not convinced that the repeated use of fuck, bullshit etc as part of your Anti panels discussion adds any real value. I’m an enthusiastic user of curse words, but the overuse of them in this type of forum detracts from the quality and allows critics to dismiss an otherwise informative panel as juvenile and not worth listening to. As my wife would say to me, stop trying to be too cool. It makes you look dumber.

"... ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country."

JFK 20-01-1961

Can you imagine the current leader of any of our political parties making such a statement? The simultaneous eye rolling by voters would cause the earth to spin off axis. The smirking and derisory laughter would unite the post-nation state, for a second, giving the illusion that we have something in common. And no-one would bother translating it into French.

The halcyon days for this country are long past and the detritus-nation that remains needs better that what is being offered.
