Ah Quebec, the emotionally abusive spouse who is constantly threatening to leave unless you cater to their every whim, but would be destitute on their own due to their laziness, marginal employment, and considerable personality quirks.
I really like the clear description of the Liberal gun control philosophy. I need to save that for discussions with people as to why the Liberal approach is opportunistic BS. Does Singh's constant interruptions in the English debate count as BS or are they just grating and painful?
Build the pipeline to Churchill. MB and hire Norwegian icebreaker service (like snowplowing) to keep the port open year round. Its shorter than Energy East, therefore cheaper to build, and avoids a Quebec veto. We can sell the oil to Europe (add an LNG pipe as well) or to Irving's St. John refinery, most of which gas product is sold into the US.
Yes. Not sure the exact best option, but we can get the resources to the east coast without passing through Quebec or the US. There is a way if there is the willpower to do so. Of course, they will certainly want their cut of the income for the pipeline they don't want anything to do with.
Creative thinking, I love it! I was thinking something similar… pipeline it to Sarnia, process it in the refineries there and send it by boat up the St Lawrence to Europe.
Canals and rivers, so smaller boats, so more transport cost than from coast. Somebody give us some real reasons not to ruthlessly bludgeon Quebec into accepting one or two pipelines. Quebec starts loud mouthing and EVERYBODY just shits their pants.
I like this idea. I had a version of it myself, I think after Premier Kinew talked about a port project at Churchill. A shorter pipeline in theory is also less environmentally worrisome right?
The Line is considered “News” so, thanks to the Trudeau Lib/Dips trying to bully Google and Meta and Meta calling their bluff, Canadian News is not allowed on FB. Same with Sam Cooper’s The Bureau.
I get around the Meta block by taking a screen shot of the headline, and pasting in a slightly modified url. I just put an extra space between "https://www.readtheline." and "ca".
That was an error, not bullshit. Mistakes are different from lies, so that one didn't meet the BB brief. We talk about TMX/Keystone during the podcast today. JG
One of your best. LOL at the mind-pic of Galen Weston sniggering as he rakes in the miniscule profits from his supermarkets and twirls his mustache. I kind of like Galen...he reminds me of a cool kind of hippie BF I had way back in the day. Anyway, glad I read this...so much info in the snark that it is worth the subscribe.
I watched both the French and English debates. My personal lexicon has not changed: it still defines “political debate” as, ‘a battle of wits between unarmed combatants.’
Any hope that there would be daylight peeking through the gap between Mark Carney and his predecessor is long gone. I can look forward to several more years of being demonized as a law-abiding, tax-paying (second-)class citizen if these guys get in. It seems instead of Trudeau steering the party to kooky extremes, it's just the party itself. Bill Blair and various ministers will continue spewing evidence-free talking points about the evils of hunting rifles in the hands of RCMP-vetted owners, while crime guns (almost entirely 9mm Glocks already prohibited in Canada) continue pouring into Toronto hands via the Buffalo border crossing.
To put it frankly, I hate this. I want boring adults in charge, not middle-aged activists spouting insulting nonsense. If I can't own a house, at least let me keep my .22 rifle.
I disagree about the BQ leader's right to participate in the debate. When the BQ was created with the sole purpose of amplifying Quebec's interests and sowing the seeds of secession at the parliamentary level, I argued that its whole raison d'être was treasonous, and therefore should not have been granted formal status on the misplaced ground of free speech. The BQ never fielded candidates outside Quebec, and never pretended to be a national party. Now that it is a fixture on the federal scene, it is unfair to suddenly remember that it is not "actually" a national party. Quebec is not a province like the others. Everyone knows that. The québécois constitute a "people" in and of themselves, which is not the case with ALberta. Disallowing Blanchet after all these years of compromise would be a surefire way to send support for separatism through the roof in Quebec. For the sake of us Quebec anglos, I ask that you reconsider that recommendation.
The Bloc can always be an official opposition if they perform in the right way (and they have been). They carry too many seats to be ignored. I feel they should be in the debates as well, even with the considerations. They have too much power to be ignored and an outright dismissal in debates would likely increase their support and seat count in Quebec.
Great BS edition. Blanchet again proved that Quebec is like a spoiled child with its mother's credit card. Leave if you're going to leave and get it over with.
Restricted category for semi-automatic firearms with interchangeable magazines or an internal capacity of N. Maybe have a muzzle energy threshold linked as well. Don't meet that, and be covered under a more general set of requirements. Done.
Honestly, what we had as of say, 5 years ago, was plenty enough. Gun control and regulations for legal ownership is not our problem in Canada, and the crime statistics back that up. It should not even be a topic of conversation at this point and it really was only JT that was stoking the fires for political points that kept it on the front burner.
"In other words, part of the reason why there isn't more competition here is because there simply isn't a lot of money to be made relative to other business investments." I don't think this is accurate. The problem is that successive governments have allowed the industry to morph from competitive into a cartel or oligopoly if you wish. They use restrictive, anti-competitive contracts that make it impossible for foreign chains to get space to have competing stores. The same applies to the pharmacy space, communications, media, banking, transportation... And btw Mr. Singh I know how to lower the price Canadian spend on eggs, dairy, poultry immediately.
How about the howler by CBC's Rosemary Barton who confidently lied right to our faces that human remains of Indigenous children had been found at Indian Residential Schools right across Canada, who then claimed it was Rebel News that was spreading 'misinformation' by even asking about the lack of any government response to the hundred or so churches burned and damaged in response to this false claim? How about Singh refusing to even address the question because he, too, believes incorrectly that bodies have been uncovered and so 'questioning' the false narrative is now misinformation but going along with a lie and protecting it from being questioned isn't!
Umm... what's that smell?
This story has layers of bullshit built into it. It is a motherlode of bullshit that not only political parties and their leaders go along with but (as Terry Glavin now shows) even AI's Grok supports the lie. Then bullshit has great depth to the point that much of media's direct role is now sacrosanct in not just maintaining but supporting the bullshit while vilifying and dismissing those who dare question it's righteous place in Canadian history! That's how widespread and imbued in the country's identity this gross lie is throughout our media landscape busy hemorrhaging not just trust but unable to question the a very significant portion of tax money poured into anything labelled Indigenous in response to this this lie. Much of media's 'acceptable' personnel blame everyone else for their lack of journalistic integrity for not covering this story by claiming it to be not worthy of their time. This journalistic problem of blaming those who remind us of what abandoning the truth looks like in action feeds the bullshit machine. Even the Line Editors in this case do their part of by painting those who dared to raise such questioning as the problem, as the ones who were wasting the time of the legitimate and pre-approved media (who didn't have to sue and win a court case to gain access to this hallowed event) who had more self-identified important questions in need of answering!
Quote: 'The rest of the country doesn't exist solely for Quebec's benefit and grace.'
That's certainly news to me after five and a half decades of living in Canada.
Ah Quebec, the emotionally abusive spouse who is constantly threatening to leave unless you cater to their every whim, but would be destitute on their own due to their laziness, marginal employment, and considerable personality quirks.
You misspelled 'corruption'.

Now this piece is fair and balanced. I did however notice that Singh’s gadfly performance was annoying. He is incredibly immature.
This column is too important not to share - I usually have NO problem reposting from sub stack onto FB…for some reason, I can’t with this
one….
The Line is considered “News” so, thanks to the Trudeau Lib/Dips trying to bully Google and Meta and Meta calling their bluff, Canadian News is not allowed on FB. Same with Sam Cooper’s The Bureau.
Wow that is whacked and just hurts independent media trying to make a go of it.
I get around the Meta block by taking a screen shot of the headline, and pasting in a slightly modified url. I just put an extra space between "https://www.readtheline." and "ca".
Did the Line Editors miss Carney refering to Keystone Pipeline when he really ment TMX?
That was an error, not bullshit. Mistakes are different from lies, so that one didn't meet the BB brief. We talk about TMX/Keystone during the podcast today. JG
That one blew me away. .. may indicate how important Alberta's concerns are to him.
Spot on Dawn...Carney is "Just visiting"...

Gslen used to pick up his kids at The Institute for Child Study's daycare. No chauffer in evidence.
Galen is making way more off his pharma deals with provinces to dispense drugs that used to require a prescription or do consults about prescriptions.
I don't know how they reconcile draconian gun restrictions and reduced sentences for gun crimes.

I would like to see something like:
Restricted category for semi-automatic firearms with interchangeable magazines or an internal capacity of N. Maybe have a muzzle energy threshold linked as well. Don't meet that, and be covered under a more general set of requirements. Done.

How about asking the Canadian Bar Association to organize the debate (singular, fully bilingual). They know about argument and supposedly about truth.
They’ve taken a few seriously left turns in the past 10 years as well.
