Outstanding. Watched Jen with the threesome this afternoon. Seeing her dissolve when it was revealed that Boissenault was in line to the Finance post was merry in all ways.

Should it have been "marry" rather than "merry?"

I was so sure Boissenault was a joke. We could have had our first Indigenous finance minister!

I'm still of the opinion, that no matter what the NDP won't force an election until everyone's pensions vest. Spring 2025 at the earliest. Pretty cynical, but I wouldn't put it past any of these clowns to obliterate the country for personal gain.

It’s extremely clear at this point that Singh is holding out until February. There is no other explanation anymore

I'm excited to hear both of your thoughts on an incredible day in Ottawa.

I'm embarrased for our country at this absolute shit show of a government.

I'm hopeful we are close to the end of said shit show.

It's an incoming CPC majority that has given zero indication of being able to solve any of our deep structural problems.

The shit show will proceed apace.

The path forward is obvious: 1995 style program and organization reviews, deregulation and tighter economic and foreign policy integration with the US.

CP, you say, "I'm embarrassed for our country ... "

I, on the other hand, am not. Bemused, chuckling, happy to see one of the Laurentians' own receive his comeuppance, certainly, but I am not embarrassed as I lost that feeling about the time that the Face Painter said, "Because it's "

Since that time there has been absolutely no embarrassment, only total and abject disgust.

Given the a Trudeau resignation doesn't look imminent, (as per his impression that this Titanic of a government is still seaworthy), what are the plays here for him- prorogation? Continue on as if this is merely a flesh wound and call Singh's bluff? What is Singh thinking with a strong call for resignation but a non committal answer about a no confidence vote? PS, love you guys, the podcast is my running/gym companion.

Singh and the NDP have no money in the bank (last I heard it was 150 K). That’s why he won’t commit to an election. He can’t afford it. He has enough money to maybe go across the country once.

So was Trudeau's original plan to let Freeland announce the 50% deficit increase today and remove her in a cabinet shuffle Wednesday? Did he really think a) She would fall on the sword like that and b) Everyone would just blame Freeland for the shortfall and turn the page? Is the PMO that deep into the Trudeau cult of personality that they thought this would be a good look for him?

I tend to agree that Freeland saw what happened when JWR got demoted and determined she wasn't going to let it happen to her. She resigned and got her side of the story out first.

I've been waiting a long time for this .... a very, very long time. How much longer do you think I have to wait? If the PM hasn't resigned within the next 48 hours ... well, as Steven Harper said 10 years ago, he (Trudeau) is "just not ready" and he keeps proving it over and over again and again now, by not even knowing that his time is up!

No chance of actually winning. They have to pick someone who can take votes away from Singh in order to save seats.

I wonder if the proverbial political knives are not out for both Justin because he is special and Jagmeet for sleeping with Justin. Do you think we could see leadership changes earlier than expected at the Liberal house of cards? I do. I expect Jagmeet to be tossed to the wolves at some point too. What are your thoughts?

Question. Is Singh the worst politician of my lifetime (since 1977)? In my opinion, he has utterly misplayed his hand. His big chance was to run against Trudeau in the next election and be the viable alternative for the left. Clearly, Trudeau will not be running in the next election. He will resign in the next few weeks, parliament will be prorogued and there will be a new leader which blocks his breakthrough.

Utter, utter idiocy. To think the NDP ditched Mulcair for him.

Singh is likely the worst politician in recent memory. I'm betting on Notley as next NDP leader.

How is prorogation even an option? Trump will continue to play this lame duck government for fools. Canada needs a new PM in place as close to the same Inauguration as possible.

Short of being able to actually read his mind, is there any indication that he (Trudeau) thinks it’s possible to ride this out? Tensions are high in Ottawa right now and I’m wondering if he has the idea that if he rides things out tempers will cool and he could survive until he calls an election on his own terms?

Is this even something they could happen, given the NDP doesn’t have the garumba to find an opportunity to vote non confidence until February or March at the earliest per Peter Julian on CBC.

It seems like ignore it until the enemy is at the gates has been the main strategy for this government and the current strategy for this crisis too.

More attention should be paid to that $20B+ payout (ordered by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal) related to the alleged discriminatory treatment of at-risk Indigenous children. It was not a court decision!

It was a relatively weak case, but was quickly approved by one relatively low-level federal judge ... and the government of Canada was too easygoing and/or intimidated to even appeal it!!

Wonder about your thoughts on the ballooning deficit and its potential impact on the tanking $CAD. Difficult to imagine a worse time of year for it. Personally, I'm planning a full year of travel outside of the country starting this summer so that's also not great!

Question: Do you think the NDP can continue to support the liberals after this without their own numbers tanking? And related… do you think the whole pension thing is the real reason Singh won’t just announce that he’s lost confidence in the government? I used to think that was just conservative trash talking but now I’m not so sure…

Short answer? Libs could pull a DNC situation, pick for example, Leblanc as leader 100 days before the next fed election in 2025 (my POV? Unlikely to happen because current PM is hosting G7 Summit in summer of 2025).
