"The issue is never the issue, the issue is always The Revolution" - David Horowitz

The hardcore Hamas enthusiasts will never change, best we can do is stop bringing so many of them in.

The "progressive" fellow travelers? We need to remember what they're really about the next time they take to the streets under the pretense of another issue

Surely that is not the ‘best’ we can do. Ford needs to light a fire under the Toronto Police Service with words and actions. If he’s completely powerless might as well vote him out.

Mary, we can also investigate many of these "activists" [a.k.a. domestic terrorists] and determine which are here illegally and then promptly - hah! from this government! - deport them and, where they are here apparently legally determine if they are complying with terms of admission and, if not, deport them.

In all cases, however, these demos should be observed closely and illegal actions (of which there are a great number, it seems) should result in actual charges and vigorous prosecution. Of course, the is Canada and that will not happen but it should happen.

No of course not, we absolutely need to address the fact that the police have just stood by with their hands in their pockets, we need to figure out why

In our attempts to be open-minded and have open borders to all, we've created our own disaster by bringing the enemy into our home. That must stop now. And some citizenship must be revoked.

And we must expel those who are here illegally, investigate those who are not complying with terms of temporary visas, etc.

But you understand, Islam is a religion of peace and Muslims should be protected class, regardless of the vile and intolerant beliefs they might hold or what abject deeds they might commit.

Conversely, jews, regardless of their deeds are despicable

Cultural relativism is to blame for this. We made our beds by letting a bunch of bigots and now we have to lie in it.

I'm not even sure there is a fix for this. It might be too late already.

Yes, it might. But if our leaders and police and courts (and media!) would do their jobs, we could certainly put a damper on the aggressive, public manifestations of it. Let's drive them back into the shadows at least.

The waves of antisemitism flooding Canada will not abate until the Trudeau maladministration, which fostered it, pandered to it, and enabled it, is finally gone.

That's wishful thinking. Trudeau didn't cause antisemitism to flare up in pretty much every developed country. His response is to be condemned, but the problem is much deeper than that.

You have passionately outlined what has to be a high priority concern for governments at all levels and the police forces who are tasked with determining when a protest has crossed the line. The bar the Toronto police set for hate speech was far too high and horrible protests and anti semitic pviolence was permitted.

We have not seen this level of anti - semitisim during my life time. The federal government has been warned by the experience of other nations - France comes to mind - where minorities too often turn to civil violence to make a point.

I reject these people and detest their abuse of our freedom to live peacefully in our city. Their acts of violence pretending to be peaceful is an attack on all law abiding citizens who believe to protect our right to live in peace we must care about the rights of others to do the same

The hypocrisy and absurdity of the settler narrative that has been espoused in universities in recent decades was the fuel driving the white collar support for the protests. if carried to its logical conclusion would this theory not condone violent protests on the part of the First Nations in Canada? How in the name of clear thought can this nonsense underpin a democratic society and one that is apparently highly educated. Canada is at a dangerous tipping point on this issue that requires clear and swift police enforcement that sends a loud message. Hate cannot be tolerated. Full stop.

Sad to say but I suspect you are correct: Jews (and the rest of us for that matter) will be expected to forgive and move on.

What would be the alternative?

Counter protests? Certain to be smoten with the label of Islamophobia.

Arrests of agitators and extremists? Our leaders seem timid to the sensibilities of bigoted troglodytes.

I hate to be so cynical...

The last few years have radicalized me more than I'd care to admit.

I suspect I am not the only one...

Thanks for the piece.

Until our government doesn’t allow Hamas and its followers to live in Canada under the disguise of being a Canadian citizen the crap will continue. Deport them!

I was a police officer for over forty years, retired over a decade ago. I am beyond disappointed at the insipid police response, across the country, to acts of public disorder that should have been robustly addressed. Police hierarchy and the politicians to whom they must report should be ashamed of themselves. Not to mention the many police officers that we saw standing by as offences took place in front of them while they did nothing, almost as if they were afraid to act.

Apologists for the law enforcement agencies will say how woefully undermanned and under-equipped they are. Nonsense. There was simply no stomach for the fight - if the protesters had been strongly dealt with from the outset at least the fringe would have stayed home, leaving the hardcore to face the batons, water cannons, tear gas and arrest.

Yep - I’m from a different generation.

I think there is medium to longer term hope of sanity returning to Canada if we have a wholesale change in government, though I doubt they will be able to clean up the mess left by the Trudeau government easily or quickly, as the antisemetic rot is deep within our media, academia, legal, NGO, and governments at all levels, and will take time to root out.

In the meantime, on behalf of Canadians who are outraged at the treatment of Jewish Canadians since Hamas broke the ceasefire with their atrocities of October 7th, I am deeply sorry.

Part of this is simply a consequence of Canada’s history of accepting refugees and immigrants fleeing disorder and strife at home. A lot of the time, the diaspora strongly represents the losing side and we end up exposed to a one-sided view of a complex issue. A Canadian is more likely to hear the perspective of a Palestinian from Lebanon, an Allende supporter from Chile, a Khalistani railing against the Indian government than the perspective of an Israeli citizen, Chileans who benefited from the end of the Allende government, or Indians talking about the impact of Khalistani terrorism in Punjab.

Politicians aren’t usually better informed than the average Canadian about these issues, so naturally they’re skewed towards the perspective they hear at home. Add in the electoral significance of diaspora voting blocs in most big Canadian cities, and you’re set for morally compromised, cowardly pandering.

Who knew that allowing immigrants from the middle east would result in a round of so much hate.

We definitely need to restrict people who teach hate from entering Canada. Believing that middle east immigrants would adopt a more pluralist outlook has obviously failed.

Perhaps when we have a federal government that actually governs the nation rather than pandering to every group for votes we may see the actions and results required of a G7 democracy.

The war isn't over. The newly spawned Orcs might be pouring out of the tunnels parading in rarely-worn combat uniforms and carrying heavily used AK-47s. But now is not the time to forgive and certainly not to forget. Israel is just getting its breath and sharing some joy in reunited families. Unless they flee to Qatar, the released criminals will likely have shorter lives free than they would in Israel jails.

I had the same thoughts over the weekend. But I suspect it won’t end. What we used to call “antisemitism” should now go by its proper name: Jew-hatred. We have allowed Jew-hatred to flourish, and until we **are seen** to take active measure to follow our existing laws, it will continue to flourish. It is time to unmask - literally - those that continue to promote this hatred.
