Dispatch from the Front Line: Beware, economists. From beneath you, Poilievre will devour
We are getting poorer as a country. Oh well. We hope you enjoy the March Holiday Weekend edition of our dispatch.
Hey, folks. We know a lot of you have family obligations this weekend so we won’t waste a lot of time with preamble. Let’s just fire through all that we need to, and then get to the good stuff.
First! We have only two tickets left for our Calgary event on April 19! With weeks to spare! Yay us. We are looking forward to seeing many of you soon.
Second, enjoy our dispatch video!
Third, The Line is now launching its second weekly podcast, On The Line. It will take us a few weeks to get it fully operational, but we’re getting there. If you haven’t seen it, check out Jen’s long interview with Anthony Housefather this week.
As always, you can find our podcasts on our website right here, or on a streaming app of your choice. Please like, subscribe, leaving a glowing review, etc. We hit you guys over the head with that request last week and it worked! Keep it up!

Alright! Let’s get into it!
Look, we're not going to lie. We at The Line actually really hate talking about the carbon tax. As subject matters go, it's bloodless, complicated and wonky. And frankly, we have been writing about this topic on and off for so goddamn long that we kinda hate the sight of it.
Nonetheless, our feelings are not shared by the masses, and so, alas.
Anyone paying attention to Canadian politics last week will not have been able to avoid the C-word. Both federal and provincial Conservatives have spent weeks ginning up outrage, rallies, and committee testimonials to "Axe the tax" ahead of a planned carbon tax increase set to go into effect today (Sunday.)
The drama only escalated when a group of economists signed an open letter effectively accusing the Conservatives of misleading Canadians in their opposition to the carbon tax.
We're going to give everybody just a tiny slice of hell for these theatrics, but we beg none of them to take us too personally. To be honest, we just find the subject a tad tedious and having to talk about it makes us grumpy.
Firstly, to the Conservatives. You guys aren’t going to like this.
