It would be a cliché to start this by telling you that the ongoing Israeli offensive against Iran is significant. Or portentous. Or a fundamental realignment of the regional balance of power. Or a risk to the stability of the Middle East — or even the world. Or that it posed a real and dangerous risk of escalation.
You already know the clichés. There is no new way to describe a renewed conflict in the Middle East. All the above is true, of course, but … you know all that already. There is no value-add for our readers in reiterating it all so we can check the box of Things You Say When Renewed Conflict Erupts In The Middle East.
So we won’t inflict any of that on you. Besides, this time, none of those lines quite seem to fit. Because here’s the thing: since this war began last week, it has been — hands down — one of the most lopsided military ass-kickings we can think of.
And it wasn’t supposed to be.
