The Line

Dispatch from the Front Lines: U.S. defence guarantees are now useless. Uh oh.

On a weird G7 and an interesting speech in Brussels. On how Doug Ford could cause us all a problem. And on Iran's great victory over America.

Prime Minister Carney with leaders of the G7 and invited countries in Évian-les-Bains, France.

Hey, everyone. Happy weekend. Happy Father’s Day, to those observing and/or celebrating. And there’s no better way to celebrate than by sitting back and enjoying the latest episode of The Line Podcast.

Also enjoy last week’s episode of On The Line, where Jen Gerson speaks with Mark Kawar, an amateur historian and journalist whose book America But Bigger explores a surprisingly persistent feature of American history: attempts to expand the United States beyond its current borders.

And now, on with the dispatch.

Last week’s stories were dominated by developments on the international front.

Prime Minister Mark Carney was abroad once again. He made a heartwarming visit to Ireland, his ancestral homeland, visiting his family’s home village and meeting with some of his relatives there. Then he was off for a visit to France for the G7. The President of the United States was also there, though he was undoubtedly focused more on Iran than anything else.

More on that later.
