How to keep up with all that we're doing here at The Line and support our growth
Read us. Listen to us. Love us. And then OBEY us. (Just kidding about the obey part.)
Hello! We are creating this post as a handy place to consolidate all the various ways you can follow along with our work. This is useful for our reference, but we hope also useful for you, someone who wants to keep up with what we’re doing. And we are getting busier!
Let us be serious for just a minute: the federal government’s disastrous C-18, the so-called Online News Act, plus their emerging plans for online content regulation, apparently including putting podcasts under the CRTC!, poses a direct threat to our ability to do our work. On top of that, the entire social media ecosystem — one of the best ways we’ve been able to reach new audiences — is in a state of total upheaval. It’s crazy out there. We’re doing our best to build a sustainable outpost amid all the insanity, and this is it. This very place. We’ll make our stand here. Join us!
First, obviously, sign up for a free account here (if you haven’t already), and you’ll get access to most of what we do. If you really like us, please subscribe. The Line is currently 100 per cent funded by our readers, and we have absolutely sworn off any government subsidy, for the simple reason that we think it will erode our credibility in the eyes of you, the readers. We have left considerable money on the table to keep our hands and consciences clean and are doing it the hard way. We think it’ll be worth it in the end, but help us out if you can. It matters.
If you’re already signed up and a paying subscriber, but you’re looking to help us out a little bit more, you can do that by donating to us at our permanent fundraiser page. We really are so honoured and touched whenever anyone does. A recurring monthly donation is the most helpful for us, because it gives us some budgetary certainty, but anything, anytime, is always helpful and always welcome. (Please note: while non-subscribers are certainly welcome to donate, a donation does not grant you access to The Line — the systems are separate. A subscription is your price of admission, a donation is an act of charity that we love you for.)
The Line is also increasingly turning our attention to audio-visual formats. If you love looking at us while we work, check out and subscribe to our YouTube account. Really! Subscribe! MASH THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON, as they say on the Minecraft videos our kids love.
And if you want to check out our podcast, well, that’s doable, too! We’re on all the big platforms now.
Spotify!
Apple!
Google!
Plenty of other options here, too, if you’re not into the ones above.
Sign up today. And this is very important: give us good reviews. This is a key part of getting a good placement on the online platforms. We hate to beg, but make no mistake. We are begging. Subscribe. Review. And share with all your friends and family.
Thanks, everyone! We hope you found an option here that suits you, and that you’ll be hearing from us soon.
The Line is Canada’s last, best hope for irreverent commentary. We reject bullshit. We love lively writing. Please consider supporting us by subscribing. Follow us on Twitter @the_lineca. Fight with us on Facebook. Pitch us something: lineeditor@protonmail.com.
I followed you on Spotify. I had to remove my explicit content block first 😀
Maybe a link to YouTube on each dispatch? I always have to search around for it. I prefer to watch and listen.
