Jen Gerson: Just build a damn thing

Yes, of course this version of an announcement for high-speed rail will be a disaster. I don't care.

Let me begin by acknowledging the painful and the obvious: yes, I know that last week's announcement of a high-speed-rail line between Toronto and Montreal is a bad joke.

Firstly, it isn’t a plan. It's a $3.9 billion plan to create a plan, on top of the other plans and announcements and financial pledges from 1984, 1994, 2016, and 2018. The only thing that would make the 2025 announcement total perfection is if we put a retired Supreme Court justice at the head of the High Speed Rail committee to examine the viability and the route and so on and so on.

This country no build things good. I get it.

And yet …
