Absolutely excellent, Matt, particularly Andrew's portion. As a retired physician, old and lucky enough in my timing to have retained an analog brain (despite EMR x 2), I can sadly assure you that he's right about our neurological vulnerabilities. He doesn't put it in these terms, but we're going to have to see that our forebrains do what our hindbrains cannot.
This whole episode was a great one. I appreciated hearing some actual practical information about fires. So much of what our government puts out is diluted, PR speak, slogan filled marketing material that we forget what real, useful information looks/sounds like. It’s getting tougher and tougher to find “real information” on many topics so this would be a valuable role and one which would also help repair trust in our society.
I didn’t quite understand the proposal by Andrew MacDougall regarding tolling social media but it was a great listen. You would think the experiences of Facebook/Cambridge Analytical/Brexit etc. would make governments more eager to push transparency on algorithms and data privacy but we don’t see that. The recent book by a Facebook insider, “Careless People” is fascinating.
Its baffling (or mabye it shouldnt be) to see online comments equating restricting forest access to covid mandates and Hitler.

Wow. How timely. Wildfire in progress close to Halifax as this was recorded. Great interview Matt.

Absolutely great video. Having such reasonable discussion without any partisan bias has been so refreshing! Keep up the good work with Jen.
