Matt Gurney: Carney can move fast now, or he'll fail. I hope he moves fast
In this era of "elbows up" terminology, I'll borrow another hockeyism. The prime minister has to set the tone.

Well, that was fun, eh? The King, the Queen, the gun salutes. Even a puck drop! Must have been a real thrill for His Majesty.
I'm not even being entirely sarcastic. The more I think about it, the more impressed I am by Mark Carney's move here. Is getting a royal visit in, even an abbreviated one, going to solve all of our problems? No. Of course not. All the problems we had on Monday, or the day before the election last month, or the day Justin Trudeau resigned, are still there. Or close enough, anyway. But it's a nice way to kick things off, and it sends a positive e signal, too. Symbols aren't everything, but they aren't nothing, either. I'll take it.
Just as a start, though. And the next thing that needs to happen, now that His Royal Highness has come and gone, is to start doing things. Not talking about things, not announcing things, but doing them.
Quickly.
