The cops have to get a judge to sign to sign a warrant before they can listen to phone calls but, for digital communications, we want the equivalent of having the phone company listen to all of our phone calls and let the police know if someone sounds like they might act up.

From a US point of view, everyone should have unrestricted access to American goods and services. They believe they have what everyone wants and we are denying our citizens.
Our position is that we also want and value Canadian content and products and that to be viable, government support and protective regulations are necessary.
On the dairy side, which is only the toe in the door, if we fully opened the market to US imports, our suppliers would become uncompetitive and go out of business. The US agi-businesses are huge and could absorb our market demand with minimal effort. We would also become very susceptible to dumping.
In my opinion it is a matter of National Security, as in food security. Food security and water security are fundamental to National security.
While having had direct exposure and experience related to the culture industry, I am not as comfortable arguing for government financial and policy support although I believe it is entirely necessary.
Remember, the US perceives Canada as a vassal state, only existed because of their benevolence. The current US administration has moved to and now largely controls private broadcasters and publishers, many of which have Canadian interests.
We must fight back. We are late to the game. To do otherwise would be to submit and accept.
