Windsor has definitely been through a difficult stretch economically, but there’s still a lot to feel positive about when it comes to the city’s future. Windsor has always been a hardworking, resilient community that knows how to adapt during challenging times. Its close connection to the auto industry and cross-border trade has created uncertainty lately, yet those same strengths are also what make the city so important to Canada’s economy in the long run. The people in Windsor have generations of skill, experience, and pride in building things, and that foundation does not disappear during a slowdown.
There are also real reasons to believe Windsor is positioned for better days ahead. The new Gordie Howe International Bridge, ongoing investment in manufacturing and logistics, and the city’s strategic location next to Detroit all give Windsor advantages many communities would love to have. Like it has many times before, Windsor is likely to come through this period by evolving and finding new opportunities, while still holding onto the strong sense of community and determination that the city is known for.
Windsor only exists though because of Detroit, which is more than fine in normal times, but these aren't normal times. An EU style loose border would see the city boom, but that isn't what most Canadians or Americans want. Windsor is geared for the wrong geopolitical reality and no amount of community can overcome that.
With the centre of economic and political gravity of Canada 3 hours north, just too far to experience any positives, but plenty of negatives such as Ontario style costs.
It's as if Windsor is stuck on the wrong side of the border. They still use Fahrenheit and miles there for instance. Will Windsor become more plugged into the rest of Canada, that remains to be seen.

Windsor has been around since the mid-1700s I think.
Detroit was founded in the early 1700s. Windsor was an offshoot of that.
