As part of a work commitment I had the opportunity to spend some time with Julie Payette a few years ago, after her time as GG. I found her to be engaging, quick witted, and generally a very impressive person. A hard charger, for sure. By the end of the day she was even busting my balls on stuff (in a joking way). As a grouchy elder millennial man, I found her to to quite charming. Now that said, I can absolutely understand why she was not a great fit as the GG.
It's too bad because she'd fit right in at a mining camp up north, or in Fort Mac, or at a ship yard. She would have been an excellent, "Special Government Advisor on Industry" or something.
Great interview if only for the fact that sometimes it is nice to hear two people with obvious respect for each other having what ended up being a fairly wide ranging and topical discussion.
Jen misspeaks early on saying the Governor General is our Head of State. That title is for the King of Canada, Charles III. He has other titles too.
