Throughout a career that took him from the navy to NASA to the federal cabinet, Marc Garneau never lost his focus on discipline, honesty, and competence.
I’m sorry for his family that he had not so long in retirement for them to enjoy him. A mensch.
There were rumours that, as Transport Minister, he had tapped into his many friends and contacts in the U.S. from his NASA days to help vital Canadian goods flow through American detours during the rail blockades of 2020. Something he never publicly claimed credit for — Cabinet secrecy and maybe it is isn’t even true so let’s not dwell on it. But let’s thank him anyway, just in case.
This really saddens me. I have posted that Canada lost a great Canadian and Canadian children have lost a great role model. I wonder what Canada would be like if he had won the Liberal leadership when he was running? For one thing, we would have had a scientist in leadership during Covid.
It just goes to show how deeply entrenched nepotism is in our country. Shocking to think that a man with an illustrious career in a cutting edge industry that has significant global competitive pressures lost a leadership race to a former drama teacher, who wouldn't have been taken seriously for the job of Liberal leader but for his surname.
I second what William Edward Henry said below. Also, I can only imagine how divorced his Mission Control post launch honesty discussion was from sitting in Trudeau's cabinet. He had discipline, honesty and competence, which the Trudeau cabal did not. I only wish he told Canadians he was dying. His choice of course, but I bet he would have been very surprised with the outpouring of love and respect which we are seeing today.
You know what? I’m just gonna have to close the comments.

Canada would be in much better shape if he had become the Liberal leader in 2013.
Let’s keep the politics to a minimum.
Very much so. To me, him losing out to the Turd, was the omen of the rottennes of "Liberals" and of bad things to come.
