"that is detrimental to the interests of Canada" - ah, that's the problem! The Liberal Party sees their interests and Canada's interests as one and the same so of course, any actions that favoured the Liberal party could hardly be seen as "foreign interference".
The Liberal Party and China's CCP both see themselves as an ebodiment of the state itself. Any other party purporting to represent Canada is an imposter.
"Without sustained transparency and an effective communications strategy, Canada could fall prey to a tsunami of misleading U.S. claims."
For sure. And yet, what does Trudeau do on 7 Feb 2025 at a summit meeting of Canadian and American business leaders? He orders the press to leave the room he is speaking in, apparently to avoid the general public hearing his statement that Donald Trump is very serious about the US annexing Canada. As The Line's editors have pointed out, this is something all Canadians should be informed about, not just a select few. The Liberals have a pathological obesssion with secrecy and withholding information from Canadians. I doubt they will change anytime soon.
Justice Hogue more or less said 'nothing to see here, move along'. The contrast with media reports of interference in nominating decisions (read Chinese interference and buses of young people) not to mention Chinese 'police stations' (are they still around by the way??) was glaring. To top it all off, the recent reports of WeChat interfering in Freeland's bid for leadership of the LPC came says that Hogue missed the point by a wide margine.
Transparency will help but Canada has such a history of hiding the facts from the citizens that oen wonders how it will ever change. The RCMP and opther polilce forces routinely refuse to release names of individuals involved in crimes (victim or perp.) on the basis of not wanting to interfere with the investigation and court case later. Blacklocks reporters is making a decent living using various sources of information to tell the public what is happening behind the walls - see the recent report on where the money went that was supposed to look for unmarked ('mass' wink wink) graves in Kamloops. Unfortunately, we depend on real reporters to dig forinformation to inform thepublic instead of depending on our governments to tell us the truth.
If governments were truly 'transparent' there would be no need for a department of disinformation nor controls or taggin of articles - the public would be able to go to the source department/minister and see/hear/read the truth. As I am gazing at my George Orwell two pound coin, Im reminded that we do not need Department of Truth, though we seem to be heading in that direction, we need the TRUTH.
Wark is a competent analyst/commentator and I am encouraged that good people are collaborative in trying to remake our country at the end of (what Paul Wells dubbed "The Gleeclub"!!

...you forgot to add "while shouting the entire time about how transparent they are being"
Unfortunately not just the Liberals. It's a Canadian obsession and its deeply entrenched in federal and provincial bureaucracies.

Misinformation and disinformation are nothing new
Maskirovka, propaganda, etc have been around since before Sun Tsu .
But is the medium the new message? Nope. It's just often more efficient at reaching more gullible Lemmings than previous technologies.
and the Hogue Report was a disgraceful whitewash of Liberal treason and complicity.
Of course her report was a whitewash. Why do you think she was appointed?
Precisely
Rouleau, Johnston, and the other one
All loyal Liberals
