Congratulations on your first year. Excellent commentary, with a point of view not exactly mainstream that contrasts with much of the conventional Canadian media. The viewpoint diversity is good, keep that up.
For vaccines we have to give credit where credit is due. China and Big Pharma. The Liberals were pretty keen to jump into bed with Can Sino, but China screwed us, just because they could. We were forced into the arms of Big Pharma, and it was defintely smart to have options with all of the major players, and one of them has really paid off. CanSino has turned out to be one of the least effective vaccines, so we dodged a bullet on that one.
I must admit, I have some trepidation about Alberta's covid policy. I asked a friend who is a cardiac specialist at a big hospital, and her remark was that everyone is going to have to make those moves eventually, we shouldn't be concentrating on just one disease, when there are so many other problems.
The next year is bound to be interesting, in many ways, and I am looking forward to more incisive commentary.
God help us - the COVID-fearful have become the 2021 COVID-iots who ironically are the same people who are convinced the global warming models are real science.
Looking forward to another year of your reporting. There is so little Canadian news and analysis that tries NOT to play team sports and write what their "fans" want to hear and agree with.
From BC, I'm puzzled that Alberta is lifting Covid restrictions when children under 12 can't be vaccinated yet. It seems like vaccines should be approved for children in just a few months.
The scientific study of COVID (such as it is) has indicated that children who get infected are unlikely to pass it on. So if you are willing to tell other people what to do with your desire for continued restrictions, be sure you are taking into account the harms of such edicts on the little ones. Harms like: mental distress, weight gain, delayed intellectual development. Any ONE of these outweighs by far any harm that might come to children from COVID. Look up the numbers yourself to see if they can persuade you out of your fear.
As a paid-up subscriber, I’m very grateful for your sharp, non-aligned thinking—thanks!

I was a "freebie" until today. I have really enjoyed The Line; keep up the great work!
Congratulations to The Line for not shutting down on day 366!

Besides vaccine procurement, I thought the Trudeau government did a good job of rolling out income supports very quickly, so that people who lost their income due to Covid wouldn't be left to cope on their own. https://www.macleans.ca/politics/ottawa/pulling-off-a-bureaucratic-miracle-how-the-cerb-got-done/
Risk to children is so, so low (long covid notwithstanding) that it seems like a really weak basis for continued restrictions.
