I agree with most of this article, although some parts of the article were misleading (like Biden vetoing universal healthcare vs. Medicare for all).
Having just moved back to Canada from San Francisco, I don’t believe most Americans especially in liberal places are really taking the likelihood of Trumps re-election seriously. Americans are also notoriously bad at talking to each other about their political values because they tie too closely to their individual identity. This makes many conversations on politics off limits less nuanced policy disagreement sparks genuine insult. This is true of people who support both political parties, and is a sign of the political immaturity that has become acceptable in America. This has been fostered by all the media networks (especially Fox) and was simply abused by Trump.
Americans are so obsessed with beating each other that they no longer care about what they can accomplish together. Republicans would rather America move backwards under democrats than give them any successes. And the same is true of Democrats. Even if luck happens and trump loses to Biden, and even if trump doesn’t contest or question the result and vacates office in a normal transition of power, American political culture is near hopelessly broken. I don’t see how it gets fixed.
