Calling genocide or no-genocide is a distraction from the actual problem. We can't change what China does in its own country. But...we can change what China does in Canada: get rid of Confucious Institutes, put a cap or even disallow Chinese real estate purchases in Canada which have wreaked havoc with Vancouver & Toronto, deny Chinese investment in our natural resources, refuse to allow members of the Chinese government or the PLA to stash cash/investments in Canada, refuse to allow the children of Chinese government officials & the PLA to enrol in our education institutions. Moreover, if we really wanted to help the Uighurs, we could seek out ways to allow them to immigrate to Canada and to support them while they're here.

Amen to this. I am glad to see that some Canadians see the hypocrisy and ideology that puts Canadians in danger under the leadership of Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau continues to prove that he has zero interest in human rights. He just pays them lip service. He brings in policies that sound pretty and progressive but has no thought for the unintended and sometimes, disastrous consequences.

Case in point: Bill C16. It was meant to give voice to transpeople but, in actuality, it has harmed women's rights. It has limited our rights to safe spaces and fair play in sports. The rights of women vs trans-women does not have to be a zero-sum game. We can look at solutions that benefit both but that would require more work and honest conversation. And Trudeau is just not interested!!!

That bill has led to bio born men declaring themselves to be a woman and serving time in women's prisons. Just because a man declares himself to be trans, does not mean that he can't be a threat to women. (https://quillette.com/2019/10/12/male-bodied-rapists-are-being-imprisoned-with-women-why-do-so-few-people-care/) Sadly, Indigenous women are disproportionately reflected in the number of women in prison. This article tells the story of an Indigenous woman being harrassed by such an inmate. Considering that Trudeau has declared that Canada is committing genocide against Indigenous women, you think he would care. But, NO! It goes against his narrative.

There is also a growing number of bio born men now competing in women's sports, and easily winning medals. I know...shocking, right??? Who would have thought (besides those with any critical thinking skills)?? As Linda Blade has rightly pointed out, this is not being inclusive. When you include bio born men in women's sports, you are EXCLUDING women.

I urge anyone that wants to learn more about how women's rights are being erased in Canada to watch this video. We need to start speaking up more.

You can argue that it is not genocide but still a crime against humanity, as the Economist did.

The two Michaels will not be released until Meng Wanzhou is free. It is just the way the Chinese work. Read "Hostage in Peking" by Anthony Grey, if you want to know the details. Still it is possible if the Americans would do some kind of plea bargain.

As a Canadian it would be good if we had a government that had some kind of moral compass.

This one doesn't, and I don 't know if any other alternative would.

Canada need s a coherent China policy, other than appeasement. If we are going to be a vassal state, we should go for it, drop out of the Five Eyes, and embrace Cnhairman Xi thought. I'm sure the Canada China business coiuncil would support that.

Not bad but I'd like to make three points:

1. Agree that Uighur treatment by China is genocide. However a formal government announcement would 1. Do little. We are a tiny, tiny part of China's market and 2. It would likely end any chance of getting our "2 Michaels" hostages freed.

2. The present day Conservatives AND Liberals are taking the other, pro-genocide side on the subject of Israels treatment of indigenous people in Gaza and the Occupied West Bank of the River Jordan.... even siding with those who claim that human rights advocacy in this setting is 'anti-semitic'.
