The Manitoba government is proposing a ban on social media and AI for minors. How enforceable will this be realistically, and what privacy risks are at play?

David Eby, DRIPA, BC, what is going on out there?

To piggyback on this excellent question: More generally how many of the resource development issues involving Indigenous bands can be resolved through legislation, and how many depend on judicial discretion, making them more difficult to address?

At what point will the Canadian population's backlash against the First Nations go mainstream? I am thinking about all the annual payments, UNDRIP requirements, apparent lack of cooperation or even outright obstruction for infrastructure projects, land claims, etc. Recent surveys seem to show significant drop in support for the First Nations. But all this is yet to go mainstream. When will that happen? Is it going to be a gradual onset or will there be some trigger?

And what will be the response from various parties?

What are The Line's plans for the future? Is anything going to change ? Is all going well enough to get by?

Two of the most talked about canidates for a "major project" are a pipeline and development of the Ring of Fire. What other potential projects are there that would significantly boost Canada's economy?

If the PQ wins the Quebec election, how well do you think the Liberal government will handle a seperation crisis. Will this take away attention from the economy file?

I really just wanna know if Jen will be my new best friend. I’m willing to donate wine to make it happen, if necessary (like, Baby Duck wine — I’m not made of money!)

September 2024:

"The creation of a multi-billion-dollar investment fund seeded with federal government money and designed to attract additional investments from Canada’s large pension plans...

...global investment firm Brookfield Corp. pitched the proposal and could be an investor and possibly manage the fund, with hopes that pooled investment dollars would reach $50 billion." From Adam Chambers on X.

What would need to happen for Canada to get involved in the Iran War? Much like the U.S. staying out of the World Wars until their ships started sinking and Germany promising Mexico land back, what is the line that Iran cannot cross in the eyes of Canadians before intervention gains popular support? There would certainly be levels, from vocaling siding with the US all the way troops on the ground.

Thoughts on Adam Chambers report Sept 2024, with Carney pitching this to Trudeau.

"The creation of a multi-billion-dollar investment fund seeded with federal government money and designed to attract additional investments from Canada's large pension plans... ...g lobal investment firm Brookfield Corp. pitched the proposal and could be an investor and possibly manage the fund, with hopes that pooled investment dollars would reach $50 billion."

Is Carney best described as:

A. Well intentioned but ideologically blinded?

B. An egotistically-motivated economist fraud?

C. A deeply corrupted traitor to Canada?

D. All of the above.

Mostly B with a side of C. I think he's deeply opportunistic and has little ideology beyond acquiring power and adulation by the Right Kind of People.

The more I look into him, the less evidence there appears that he is particularly skilled at economics or finance. His role at Brookfield was vague and mostly symbolic. He was not involved in asset allocation or operations. He presided over two housing bubbles and loves to print money. The fact that Canadians bowed to his credentials (great job getting A's in school when you were in your 20's, bud!) and didn't question his actual record makes us look like the dimwit provincial rubes he clearly thinks we are.

And another question: do either of you have any thoughts or reactions to the 100,000 Red Seal jobs program and funding? From my vantage point, I am wondering why money for training these young builders of Canada only goes to union training halls, and not the range of colleges and polytechnics that train various trades students - from care workers to electricians to pipefitters and HVAC and more. Thoughts?

If you or I borrowed money we do not have - and called it an investment portfolio, our bank manager would laugh us out of the office. Yet today's Federal Budget asks Canadians to applaud exactly that accounting sleight of hand ... borrowing billions and flipping it onto the asset column with a smile and a press release. How have we arrived at a place where political branding trumps basic financial literacy - and more importantly, when did Canadians stop asking the hard questions? And better yet - why does the East elect... yet again a Liberal Government and expect a different result!! The defination of insanity comes to mind.

Why is it, do you think, that Pierre Poilievre has chosen to suggest that he would be able to secure much better treatment of Canada when engaging Donald Trump?

What possible benefit is there in this for him?

For accountability, do an article on Christina Fox (Deputy Minister of Defence). Ethics watchdog found that broke rules when she hired an unqualified aquaintice. Her response was that because the aquaintice fell under DEI it was fine and she's not sorry. No other repercussions for her.

Things will seriously not change until we hit rock bottom. Jen is right we will just continue to decline. Our "problems" have not effected enough people to make them seriously feel like they have to take action. We have for 80 years been so isolated from anything difficult or hard and we have lost the ability to do the hard things. You both have pinpointed this and diagnosed it properly. Our children will vote with their feet.
