Yup. I know many ppl in Alberta w an American winter residence - no one, not one, is pissy & selling. DJT has midterms coming up fast, and he’s literally gone in a few… who in their right mind hinges a financial investment property decision in a fit of pique?

And vacations are being booked as normal. If I said to my husband - Trump, Trump, Trump - omg we can’t go to San Diego or Phoenix this year, he’d tell me I’m being childish. And rightly so. I love the American ppl, they’re lovely & welcoming.

The Liberal Party have been in the driver's seat to fill the judicial vacancies for much of the time since the Charter was introduced. Running concurrent to this has been a deliberate attempt to establish Charter rights with the Court Challenges Program, a Liberal initiative which uses public funds so people can litigate the government to move the yardsticks of social justice.

The Trudeau Government plodded along with judicial appointments at a snail's pace to the point of public exasperation from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, but Trudeau certainly found time to appoint a generous number of SCC justices who will carry on their duties long after Trudeau's resignation.

If we add up all these little details, it isn't hard to imagine that the Liberal Party would see the NWS clause as a disrupter of a carefully laid plan that puts activist judges in a position to crack down on heartless Conservative governments who enact laws that progressives find repugnant. Conservative Premier's of late are getting ahead of lawfare that stymies their political goals and using the NWS clause to push along agendas that they feel are important to their citizens.

The Liberals are shamelessly trying to rewrite the Charter through the back door of the Supreme Court, knowing that any attempt to curtail the power of the Provinces would never pass through a Constitutional Amendment. Sneaky little trick.

None of the Conservative premiers using the NWS Clause (nor the Quebec government, for that matter) have built up any credibility as advocates of parliamentary supremacy over the executive, or majority rule through democratic reform. It's not obvious that they are using the NWS Clause to advance the interests of the provinces as much as to indulge their own impulses for immediately getting their way and exercising full executive control.

I do not recall any of these Premiers ever having the impulse control to even just go through the exercise of appealing a policy to the Supreme Court and seeing what the outcome would be - except in the case of Doug Ford disrupting the democracy of Toronto's municipal elections, which despite its obvious imbecility was accepted upon appeal by higher courts as within his power to do.

You guys knocked it out of the park today!

Awesome hit on the technocrats Jen! They are indeed the straw bosses of the Canadian gulag/slave barracoon. Covid, civilian disarmament, “hate speech” regulation and communications oligopoly maintenance are prime examples to name but a few of their accomplishments. And the technocrats are prime Judas goats/targets to be sacrificed to deflect blame from the entitled language, financial, religious, racial and genealogical/old family elites who actually call the shots.

And another home run by Matt for his analysis of Ambassador Hoekstra’s role in Canada and the pre-clearance service discussion. I can see the cost benefits to US carriers and now also see why it makes no economic sense to reciprocate in Canada with its one (essentially) airline. . (To be fair, there will be in 2025 a Canadian pre clearance center at Covey Hill NY near the Québec border. Not sure of the benefits to Air Canada but the thought is there). I love Matt’s description of Canadian polite behavior at the meeting. I have always had a hard time describing “shit eating grin” to people and now I have found the perfect analogy. Thank you Matt.

Met some Aggies, apparently the carbon tax was only removed for consumers? Farmers and transportation still pay? If that is the case then the economists are laughing into their sleeves. See? we removed the tax and groceries remain to too expensive. Well, for you, we're OK.

The only one of these issues that I think Carney can win on is Canada Post even though he's essentially just implementing the stuff Harper was doing, for good sound business reasons, before Trudeau used it to pander to the inner city elite voters in Montreal and Toronto to win the 2015 election.

Only 25% of Canadian households get daily direct delivery (including Matt). The rest of the country has been getting their mail from community mail boxes, P.O. Boxes or RR service for over 40 years. Why should we be subsidizing the folks in Rosedale, Mount Royal or The Beaches et al?

Glad to hear Matt hold back on his accurate criticism of the federal AG.

Good show guys!

Neither the Liberals nor the Conservatives are calling for the actual obvious solution: abolishing the quasi-monopoly that Canada Post has on letter mail. Other companies should be legally permitted to cheaply deliver the same mail that Canada Post has now decided that it can no longer profitably deliver itself.
