The Star's (mis)characterization of the Korchinski-Paquet case represents a now endemic process in the press. The old journalistic ideals have fallen -- a new paradigm now reigns: reporters investigate to find facts which support a priori conclusions; newspapers exist is be a salve to their readership stuck in a harried world; and this is all part of an effort to lead the reader to his or her respective feeding trough of bias within the narrow range of accepted thought. The destination of this endeavor is not truth, but rather advertising revenue via the highway of self-righteous indignation.

Matt Taibbi draws an arrow straight through this in "Hate Inc.", and it's wonderful to see "Holding The Line" begin to do this north of 49.
